However, Akira Toriyama's ongoing manga series has continued the anime story with two brand new arcs already released at this point. With Toei Animation recently announcing that a new Dragon Ball Super movie is in the works, fans are wondering if the anime series will return with new episodes.
The popular action shonen is very much alive thanks to the new chapters of the Dragon Ball Super manga, and if you've been keeping up with the series, you know that a brand new season with new episodes is due. When will new episodes of Dragon Ball Super be released?
While the Dragon Ball Super manga continued to release new chapters month after month after the anime's 131-episode run, fans are wondering when Toei Animation will produce new episodes for the popular anime series. So far, Toei hasn't announced the return of Dragon Ball Super anime, but many have speculated that it will return by 2022, three years after Dragon Ball Super: Broly premiered in Japan.
Toei Animation already released Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero in 2022, but the animation company didn't confirm if new episodes of the anime series will be released following the movie.
When will Toei Animation possibly announce Dragon Ball Super Season 2?
At Jump Festa 2021, Toei Animation didn't announce any plans for Dragon Ball Super Season 2, but Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero may open up new possibilities for future episodes of the fan-favorite anime series.
Toei Animation shared its anime plans to celebrate its new movie release with a 'Thank You Stage Greeting' on June 25. The event, which took place in Shinagawa, united Dragon Ball stars as they thank fans and reveal various behind-the-scenes details with them.
Sadly, there was no announcement about Season 2, and the tweet about the road map below is not confirmed to be true.
Twitter user @DBSChronicles also reported that Dragon Ball Super will return in 2023, with episodes set after the Universe Survival Arc currently in production. Additionally, Toei Animation is reportedly planning to release Dragon Ball Super movies once in 2-3 years following the massive success of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.

Toei Animation seemingly confirms Dragon Ball Super Season 2
The new official website of Dragon Ball Super also featured Toei animator Florence Jay Dominguito, who's been working with Toei Animation Philippines since 2011 and has been involved in various Dragon Ball projects.
During one point in the interview, the animator was asked about his hopes and expectations for the future of the Dragon Ball franchise, and Florence responded, "As a fan, I'm really looking forward to new movies and merchandise. I'm also excited about the new anime that will continue Dragon Ball Super."

Based on this machine-translated statement, it's easy to jump to the conclusion that Dominguito may have indirectly confirmed Dragon Ball Super Season 2. However, there might be some significant differences in how his statement was translated. However, according to Japanese translator Ken Xyro, here's what the animator said - "I'm also excited to see if there will be a new continuation of Dragon Ball Super TV anime."
Ryō Horikawa, the voice actor for Vegeta in the Japanese version, recently hinted that he'll be returning for new episodes of Dragon Ball Super, but he didn't reveal any specifics. In the tweet, Horikawa teased that he'd just left a meeting with Toei Animation but didn't explain why.
In January 2022's edition of Weekly Dragon Ball News on the official Dragon Ball website, executive producer Akio Iyoku talked about the release of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero to hype up one of the most highly-anticipated anime films of 2022. Iyoku also dropped a major tease that there's a "chance" that "something other than the movie" will be arriving this year as well.
"I'm currently working hard to get everything finished on the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie, whose release date has been confirmed for April 22nd in Japan!," Iyoku said. "I think the movie is just incredible, especially the animation. [Series creator Akira Toriyama] is really pleased with it! It's all-new animation, so, everyone please wait a little while longer until it's finished." Finally, he shared the biggest tease, "There's also a chance that something other than the movie will be coming this year too, so let's make this year another great year for Dragon Ball together!"
On April 1, DBSChronicles tweeted that the Dragon Ball Super anime TV series will return to feature the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc, but turned out to be just an April Fools Joke.

Who would be the new villains in the new Dragon Ball Super episodes?
If you've been keeping up with the Dragon Ball Super manga series, you already know that the arc following the Universal Survival Saga is the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga, which takes the Z-fighters to space and back to Earth, and introduces the villainous goat-looking wizard named Moro, a character designed by the current Dragon Ball Super artist Toyotarou.
A few years before the end of the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie, and around the destruction of Kid Buu by Goku, the Grand Supreme Kai's seal on Moro's magic broke, allowing him to beak out of the Galactic Patrol's prison. The new episodes of Dragon Ball Super would most likely follow this saga, which just concluded in the manga in 2020.
There are also a bunch of other prisoners who escaped from the Galactic Patrol's prison, and the new episodes will most likely feature them fighting the Z-fighters in planet Earth.
Of course, after Moro, the new season of Dragon Ball Super will introduce Granolah, but more details on that below.
After the conclusion of the Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc, the Dragon Ball Super manga continued with the next arc, Granolah the Survivor Saga, which introduced Granolah, the sole survivor of the Cerealian race that was annihilated by the Saiyan army.
The most recent arc also introduces a new villain named Gas, the most powerful member of the Heeter Force who fought Goku's father, Bardock, forty years ago. Granolah the Survivor Saga just concluded in Chapter 87 (released in August 2022), and the end of that chapter includes a note that says that the manga will take a break before the new arc begins.
The final chapter of the Granolah the Survivor Saga also featured the return of Frieza, and the debut of his powerful Black Frieza transformation.
What's in the latest chapter of Dragon Ball Super manga?
Warning: Spoilers for Dragon Ball Super Chapters 87 ahead.
Dragon Ball Super Chapter 87, titled The Universe's Strongest Appears, was released on Aug. 19, and it features the return of Frieza. The iconic villain finishes Gas easily, and reveals to Goku and Vegeta that he managed to squeeze 10 years worth of training inside a room where time flows differently. Thanks to this, he's able to unlock a new form called Black Frieza, which makes him powerful enough to take down Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta. The chapter concludes the Granolah the Survivor Arc.

Will Goku unleash his Ultra Instinct form again?
Goku unleashes his complete Ultra Instinct form during the Tournament of Power Saga while fighting the powerful Jiren, but at the end of the anime series, it seems that he had lost his ability to go into Ultra Instinct. After all, this powerful form was brought out by extreme stress in his battle against Jiren.
If you've read the Galactic Patrol Prisoner saga, you'd know that Goku's Ultra Instinct form will return, but will he be able to fully master it so he can unleash it at will? You'd have to read the manga to find out.
What about Vegeta? Will he get a new form?
Although the manga doesn't show Vegeta get an Ultra Instinct form, he still gets some serious training with the Yardrat, the same beings who taught Goku Instant Transmission. He also learns a new technique called the Forced Spirit Fission, and uses it in his fight against Moro.
Vegeta also trained with Beerus, and it looks like he's taking the God of Destruction path to become stronger while Goku is taking the angel's path. At the end of Chapter 74, Vegeta unleashed his new Ultra Ego form, but it seemed that he hasn't mastered the new form, and he ended up losing to Granolah.
While fighting Gas, he also transformed into his Ultra Ego form, but unfortunately, he still wasn't powerful enough to defeat the overpowered villain.
Dragon Ball Super Vol. 18, which was released in March 2022, revealed a new illustration of Ultra Ego Vegeta.
December 2021, Dragon Ball Super manga artist was featured in an interview shared on the official Dragon Ball website in which he explained the origins of Ultra Ego, and how this new form was influenced by the God of Destruction, Beerus.

All episodes of Dragon Ball Super are available to stream on Crunchyroll, and if Toei Animation releases a new season, it's likely that this streaming platform will also premiere the new episodes.

Netflix hasn't announced any plans to release Dragon Ball Super on its streaming service. According to Netflix's list of movies and TV shows coming in October 2022, Dragon Ball Super is not coming to the streaming service in October 2022.
